There are a couple of places with "Iria" in Portugal but they seem to be in honour of a Greek Christian martyr.

Jeronymo Contador, circa 1700, puts the hypothesis of being either equally Greek or a Basque name.

Parallel example: Coimbra is a celtic name meaning "City of the Conii" (who were a people living primarily where the Tartessian culture flourished).

Different electric current used for railways
[Image: bahnstrom.jpg]

The red 25kV speck in Germany is the Rübeland railway (the red lines in e.g. France are for high speed railways like the TGV)

Ah, then they are missing a yellow speck on the 25,4km between Lisboa and Cascais:

What are the chances of getting back any of the confiscated territories? namely Petsamo access to the Arctic.

I didn´t know Finland once had such a stretch of Arctic coastline. Very interesting...
Why did Sweden not push for such a coastline back in the days before 1815, though? Seems odd that Norway should have been allowed ALL of it.

Anyway, the bargain made with the RSFSR for Petsamo/Pechenga seems rather unfortunate to me:
Karelian areas, presumably with plenty of Karelians in them, handed over for the sake of "Ooh, let´s have a bit of coast up there!" where only a few fishermen and reindeer herders live - seems a poor bargain from a nationalist point of view. sad Were the eastern areas difficult to defend or something?

Interesting matter anyway, thanks for bringing it up, though it must be galling for Finns to think about.
