RE: Scottish independence thread
I really do think it will stir a lot of rethinking about various identities, and for the better.

And in general, especially with regard to all those saying how terrible it might be for the Scots in the long term, I'm like all:

"And now if a whole nation fell into that? In such a case, I answer, infallibly they will return out of it. For life is no cunningly-devised deception or self deception, it is a great truth that thou art alive, that thou hast desires, necessities: neither can these subsist and satisfy themselves on delusions, but on fact. To fact, depend on it, we shall come back: to such fact, blessed or cursed, as we have wisdom for."

RE: Scottish independence thread
^Same here. Today I spoke to a friend in Aberdeen who predicted that even though the polls are very close, a last minute patriotic flurry will occur, pushing the Yes vote. These votes would probably be at the expense of Labour, which would be great. I mentioned to him that I hoped that Scotland would take the opportunity to change the political landscape, not only in their own country, but the whole of the UK, but had reservations that they would actually decide for independence. Of course, even if Scotland votes no, the political landscape of the whole of the UK would change anyway. I think though that if Scotland votes for yes, David Cameron is out on his ass, as well as the other leaders of the 3 main parties.

I think what's happened with this campaign is that the whole of the UK has sat up and had it confirmed to them what a bunch of dirty, rotten scoundrels the leaders of the main parties in London are. We knew already that they were corrupt, but this has cemented many people's opinions.

In approximately 8 hours, we will know.

I'd be interested in finding out what Plaid Cymru thinks about the referendum, as they seem to be on the decline and at this point - like in Québec - a referendum would result in a smashing defeat for separatists.

Plaid have been vociferous in supporting the Scottish referendum and Leanne Wood has been in Scotland campaigning with Salmond. I must say that I like Leanne, she's much more honest than all the other slimeballs at the Senedd.

The results are in and the No campaign won with 55% of the vote against 45% for Yes. It's noticeable that the biggest city Glasgow and Dundee voted to leave and Edinburgh and Aberdeen (money cities) decided to stay.

The Scots have done the English a favour in that the West Lothian question is finally going to be addressed.

I find it unbelievable that all EU citizens resident in Scotland were allowed to take part in the referendum.

With the right EU citizens in Scotland the Yes campaign would have certainly won. Too bad someone poured some stupidity potion into the tap water supplies.

Damn, I was actually getting excited.

Ah well, pretty maps time:

Adjusted to try and make a bit more sense out of it;

The Irish immigrants along the Clyde, and leftover Irish-speakers in the western Highlands seem to have been the main force behind the 'yes' vote. ;) Dunno how many bogtrotters are in Dundee but that's a strange old place anyway.

Norsemen in the Northern Isles, Angles in Northern Bernicia, and deferent Picts around Balmoral seem to want nothing of this Gaelic fancy. Big Grin
