Ritual slaughter opens new markets for Lithuania

The Lithuanian parliament adopted an amendment on Tuesday that will allow the ritual slaughter of animals without prior stunning as of 2015. The liberal daily Lietuvos rytas welcomes the decision: "It is clear that the Russian embargo on food products from the EU influenced the politicians' mood. Lithuanian farmers have great expectations of the markets in Muslim countries. They hope that legalising ritual slaughter will compensate at least in part for the losses caused by Moscow's ban. ... The government must help food producers who are now in trouble above all by removing any export obstacles it can. The legalisation of ritual slaughter is an important step in this direction, and can open up markets both in Muslim countries and in Israel." (25/09/2014)

The legal precedent is now set for the ritual slaughter of pigs for Odin.

For some reason, I was under the impression that this was for Lithuanian pagans.

Pagans tend to respect animals. Muslims and Jews don't.
