Lithuanian population shrinks by 0.7% in 2014 due to emigration and deaths
The population of Lithuania has decreased by about 0.7% at the end of 2014 compared to late 2013, according to estimates made by Statistics Lithuania.

At least two factors are behind the decrease according to the government institution the first is emigration, more than 12,600 people emigrated than immigrated and the second is attributed to the natural population change. 8,900 more people died than were born.

Lithuania has a total population of nearly 3 million and is the most populous of the three Baltic countries with Latvia at just over 2 million people and Estonia with 1.3 million people.
