Pregnant at 65: Miracle of medicine
Quote:Annegret Raunigk, 65, is reportedly due to give birth to quadruplets.

The German primary school teacher is said to be in her 21st week of pregnancy and feeling "fit".
If her pregnancy progresses well, as hoped, Ms Raunigk will be the oldest to give birth to quadruplets, but not the oldest mum to give birth to a child - that official record is held by Maria del Carmen Bousada Lara, who give birth to twins in Spain in 2006, at the age of 66, although some say it belongs to Omkari Panwar, who is believed to have been 70 when she gave birth to twins in India in 2008.

More here.

Well. I wish her and her children good health and a strong support network of family and friends.

RE: Pregnant at 65: Miracle of medicine
This is not a "miracle" and it sends a bad message to younger Germans. First of all, this is not a natural pregnancy. There are exogenous hormones involved and the eggs are artificially fertilized. Secondly, who knows what effects this may have down the line, genetically and/or epigenetically. One is supposed to make babies when their body is naturally fertile, when they are most passionate and pliable, not when they are older and unable to naturally conceive.

But, hey, I do hope all works out for them. I just hope this doesn't become trendy.

At least the mother will have a lot of time to spend with the offspring as she is already in retirement. Anyway, this story only corroborates my view that all female teachers are crazy one way or another.

By the time the kids are starting University or a job, their mother will likely be either senile, in need of round-the-clock care, or dead.

There's a good reason why women don't naturally have babies after their 40s. Hmm... We keep messing with nature just to satisfy the wims of individuals, with the wellbeing of the child and other effects second considerations.

Considering the Ponzi scheme logic behind our pension systems the government should be thankful for women in their 60s who give birth and then die.

RE: Pregnant at 65: Miracle of medicine
Why would she have babies at that age when she's more bound to drop dead than raise her children? The fact that she could get pregnant at 65 is indeed miraculous, but human life is still constrained within the first 100 years. Our productivity dramatically drops off after 60, 65 or 70 years old.

From my point of my view my 45 is the former 65.
