Indeed. And from what I've seen, it's becoming a fully fledged proxy war. Let's see if the powers that be can claim another victory. I think they can, but I also feel their grip on power is slowly slipping.

We must dissent.

Quote:U.S. intelligence indicates that a Turkish warplane shot down by Syrian forces was most likely hit by shore-based antiaircraft guns while it was inside Syrian airspace, American officials said, a finding in tune with Syria's account and at odds with Turkey.

Turkey scrambles F-16s in response to Syrian military helicopters approaching border
Quote:ANKARA — Tensions between Turkey and Syria rose Sunday, as Ankara scrambled fighter jets after Syrian helicopters flew close to the border, underlining the mistrust between the neighbours after the downing of a Turkish plane last month.

The fresh hostility came as Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan insisted that a jet fighter shot down by Syria last month was in international airspace, dismissing a U.S. newspaper report that it was downed inside Syria as untrue.

Erdogan waded into the row at a meeting of his AKP party, saying that the Wall Street Journal had “unfortunately published a story which is not true”.

The comments follow a report Saturday in the newspaper citing US intelligence that claimed the plane was “most likely hit by shore-based anti-aircraft guns while it was inside Syrian airspace”.

I take they never identified the weapon? It's not so hard to believe the plane was shot down by this (0:31).

We must dissent.

Now only to hear about Brits behind enemy lines (Other than the 'British Syrian' activists of course). Then we have the three Western classic Middle East meddlers involved.

RE: Civil war in Syria
'Activists' are claiming Assad's security forces have set fire to forests near the borders and they are spreading towards Turkey. If this is the truth, smart move. Big Grin

It sounds like there was opposition infighting in a meeting in Cairo. I wonder if it could lead to fighting amongst the militias in Syria before they topple the Ba'athists.

Turkey is still screaming bloody murder about the jet they sent into Syria's airspace and sticking to their line that it was in international airspace. Facepalm
