Because the EU is doing such a good job of dealing with those right now...

And too focused on economic issues. The report found the media reported twice as much on the economic impact of Brexit than on immigration. Little has been said about the political aspect of the EU, the history of the EU, or the intent of ever closer union - this helps Remain. Infact the general standard of debate has been pathetically low.

Latest polls:

Survation phone
Remain 44
Leave 38

YouGov online
Remain 41
Leave 41

ICM online
Remain 45
Leave 45

ORB, phone
Remain 55
Leave 42

RE: British EU referendum
Given all these new indicators I am beginning to have a very bad feeling about the chances of a Brexit. The propaganda is getting through to the voters. Britain will be cucked into remaining in the EU.

Voters being the key word. Too many people I know who would be more likely to vote in a "patriotic" way are too likely to sit at home on their arse on the day. When it comes to those who WILL go to the ballot box, it's more or less even, almost: I've just been looking on facebook; one old schoolfriend who was a big Blairite in the 2000s is Exit (based on general sovereignty issues), and another is Remain (posting a New Statesman article about how the EU defends the rights of working mothers). Considering my family, all the state employees (teachers and nurses) are likely to do what their paymasters tell them. Eeee... It'll probably be a close one.

For life is no cunningly-devised deception or self deception, it is a great truth that thou art alive, that thou hast desires, necessities: neither can these subsist and satisfy themselves on delusions, but on fact. To fact, depend on it, we shall come back: to such fact, blessed or cursed, as we have wisdom for."

Just let the Van der Bellen team count the postal votes and everything will be fine!

Temples drear where ancients trod,—
Nay, in oaks on woody hill
Lives and moves the German God.

This, and other such tactics, is precisely what I fear, though the numbers of idiots voting Remain anyway will help such underhanded ballot-stuffing appear less striking than it should.

Well, they will probably be too busy doing their patriotic bit cheering on the England football team for the 2016 Eurocup.

RE: British EU referendum
Talking to friends and family, immigration seems to be the thing driving the Leave vote. On the other hand, my pro-Remain mainly younger friends and some adults are concerned about the general risks/uncertainty of leaving, and possible threats to the economy.

Quote:Net migration to the UK rose to 333,000 in 2015, according to Office for National Statistics estimates - the second highest figure on record.

Net migration is the difference between the number of people coming to the UK for at least a year and those leaving.

The net migration figure for EU citizens was 184,000 - a record number.

Boris Johnson said David Cameron had been "cynical" to promise to bring net migration down to below 100,000 while the UK was part of the EU.
