Normandy: 'Priest killed' as knifemen take hostages at French church

Main points:
Two knifemen take several people hostage during mass
The hostage-takers are believed to have been shot dead by police
Unconfirmed press reports say the priest was killed after having his throat cut
AFP quote police sources who say one hostage was killed
President François Hollande heading to scene
Counter terror specialists reportedly called in to investigate
Two men armed with knives were reportedly shot dead by police after taking hostages at a church in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, near Rouen in the département of Seine-Maritime (see map below) at 10am on Tuesday.

Reports say the men entered the church during mass via a rear door. A priest, two nuns and two worshippers were said to be among the hostages, while another nun was able to escape and raise the alarm.

If Islamic terrorists have murdered a Catholic priest... Wow.

Yes, "Muslims" killed someone in Western Europe. This is kind of routine now.

A martyr. Pray for us Fr Hamel.

I heard on the radio this morning that the Archbishop of Rouen, Dominique Lebrun, referred to three victims, parceling this Mohammedan scum with the blessed martyr. If this is so then he is a shameless coward. At least Cardinal Sarah still has a spine.

This is why Catholicism is dead in Western Europe and probably will never come back even if we remove non-Europeans.

Actually secularism is a good idea.

The real problems actually started with the introduction of secularism. The Chrch of course is doing all it can to no longer pose an alternative to the secularstate by being at least equally corrupt.

Not in haunts of marble chill,
Temples drear where ancients trod,—
Nay, in oaks on woody hill
Lives and moves the German God.

Because some have confused secularism with a sick version of liberalism. By living in Poland, I am not in a very comfortable situation myself.

I don't believe it will come back, either, because we are fastly approaching the end.

But this is not why Catholicism is dead (I disagree with this also; it is not dead but severely weakened). It's merely a symptom of the disease rather than the disease itself.

Quote:French President François Hollande described the killing of Father Jacques Hamel by two men swearing allegiance to the Islamic State (IS) group as a “desecration of French democracy”, in an address to the nation on Tuesday evening.

And I thought decapitating Catholic priests was in line with French republicanism...

When I said "dead", I didn't mean completely dead, there will be a minority of believers, mostly traditionalist Catholics opposed to this "pope". But they won't be enough to restore Catholicism.

They celebrated it in the lodges. A reminder of 1792.
