How much of your ancestry do you know?
Here´s mine, colourcoded for national origin... Big Grin
Going clockwise, with each block an individual, and each letter a person for whom I actually know their name, with me right in the centre;
[Image: circles2benmorespan.png]
Red is English, Green Irish. The Scots at the bottom are actually from Kelso and Roxburgh, which is right on the English border. So they´re Angles, no matter what. The others are MacKenzies, so are Highland Gaels.

In other words, I know this much:
[Image: circlesbebknown.png]
(the people at roughly 85º - 90º anticlockwise are a bunch of Warwickshire farmers, who I can push back several more generations in several cases, to 1600. Just beyond the limits of this chart, pedigree collapse occurs, due to people marrying cousins...)

If you are also a sad geek, you can make your own

Off the top of my head, I might know a little bit more. Wish I didn't keep hitting awkward dead ends, making mistakes because of common as muck names and so on when I had access to census papers. PERKELE

Wait, I've made a mess of it. I'll make a better version later. I'm planning on organising what I've got properly tonight.

Red = Russian
Blue = German
Yellow = Cossacks

I only know what my parents, grandparents and great grandparents told me about the ancestors they had in memory. I have never done any "professional" research on my ancestry.

I was thinking of painting my circle, but it's too monotonous.

Big Grin

I have a few such images saved in a folder, and when I flick thru them quickly, it does have a peculiar effect... Big Grin

Impressive to hit the 1/16 ancestry level, then.
I only had two on that level, from writing to my great gran´s cousin.

THinking about it, my own chart looked roughly like that, before I started finding ways to do it online, before the security system of the various geneaology sites was improved... ;)

RE: How much of your ancestry do you know?
I made a mistake in placing the male surnames on different sides, but other than that I really enjoyed getting out my 'computer crayons' and having a go.

Red is English.
Yellow is possibly English.
Blue with red lines is possibly Welsh.
Green with red lines is possibly Irish.
