I love Rothko. I lived in Houston and used to go to the Rothko Chapel to meditate.

I may have outgrown this, but it has always been my favorite:

The weather outside today put me in mind of this Canadian painter's (Cornelius Krieghoff) works:

The Blizzard:

The Blacksmith's Shop:

Winter Landscape, Laval (Lower Canada):

You'll notice that most of the men in Krieghoff's paintings wear a white coat with a distinct stripe at the hem. These coats are our famous Hudson's Bay point blanket coats.

Stumbled over this one recently:

A Tea Party in Mytishchi by Vasily Perov

I like the atmosphere of the painting.

Here are two amazing paintings that I love by Swedish painter John Bauer (born in Jönköping, Sweden, 1882).

From 'Leap the Elk and the Little Princess Cottongrass'

I adore this one he did of Freyja:

I originally posted a very large version, but it would be very hard to see and appreciate the detail, so here's the link:

Technically not paintings, but these images from Yuriy Norshteyn’s Hedgehog in the Fog (1975) are hauntingly beautiful, in my opinion.

Not "favourites" as such, just some odd stuff that came up by chance in a websearch for "1944, bell, Newton Anderson"...

Basically anything by Alfons Mucha. I have never had any other artist's use of line and color to make such a striking impression on me.
